Ask ADHD Kids Curious Questions to encourage them to Self-Motivate

Asking carefully-crafted questions can spark motivation in ADHD kids more than simply telling them what to do. Download this free ADHD printable to see how you can transform everyday conversations with kids by turning statements (tell) into questions (ask).

By asking questions that are curious you are being supportive and non-confrontational. The questions are also leading the kid toward the goal you have in mind (e.g., studying, cleaning their room, etc.).

When you ask the kid a question and they work to form a response they feel a sense of control over the situation. The ADHD kid can have a say in WHAT effort they put forth and HOW they do it. This helps the kid feel independence and a sense of purpose.

This approach may not apply to every single conversation you have with ADHD kids but stay mindful of when conversations get tense or go awry – maybe this approach could work next time.?
